Yes. The XD-M does come in a 40. It carries16 in the clip and 1 in the chamber. I did a lot of shopping (Kimber, H&K and Sig) before I bought this one. The adjustable grip, weight, and clip capacity is unmatched. My wife fired it at the range last time out and I may not get it back from her. By the way it comes with a match grade barrel. Great carry and shooting handgun I may even say the best that I\'ve ever carried and fired.
I picked up a 9mm XDM a few months ago and without a doubt it\'s the most accurate of the 4-5 service sized 9mms I have ever owned. 9mm ammo, while still expensive, can be found without too much trouble so practice won\'t break the bank like .45 ACP.
While I agree that the roll pin for the grip insert was a pain my biggest complaint isn\'t with the gun but with the "gear" included with the XDM. It got me started but it will soon be replaced.
A friend of mine bought a .40 XDM, I can\'t wait to try it.
I picked up an xdm 40 last week, I have two other xd from years ago. By far the xdm is the best of the bunch. It is a beautiful and sexy gun I have never shot anything like it ever, it fits perfectly in the web of your hand, and shoots like a dream. My opinion is that the xdm 40 is the best and most comfortable handgun on the market right now and probably will be until springfield makes another variant of the xd. If you don\'t have one go out and get it, you wont be dissapointed....
Other info to mention and of interest: Striker fired, single action only? trigger pull?, length of pull? overtravel? safeties? loaded chamber indicator?
The XD(m) is striker-fired, single-action and has only passive safeties. It has the famous Springfield grip safety, and a Glock-like trigger safety. It also has the requisite drop safety features as well as a loaded-chamber indicator and a cocked-striker indicator. This is by far the finest pistol I\'ve had the pleasure to fire, let alone own. It is the pistol that will finally put to bed any lingering Glock-vs.-XD confusion.
When is Springfield going to stop dragging their feet and come out with the XD-M in .45 cal.? It has started to get ridicoulous how much time they are taking. They use the same frame for the .40 and 9mm. I get it that the .45 needs a totally different frame.....how long can this take to devise. I have been waiting so long that now I may spend my $$ on an FNP .45 or a SW M&P .45. Feed up with Springfield Arms!
XDM is the best value on the market and that\'s not a concession to the reasonable price. All of the features combine to make a great weapon. I\'ve shot professionally for 40 years and this is the first handgun I\'ve owned that there is not one thing I would change about it! Better grip and feel than any Glock, easliy as capable and more flexible than SIG or H&K at half the price.
While I\'ve never shot a glock, I\'ve got small/medium hands, the small insert made getting all fingers around grip easy; it shoots VERY accurately, feeds ANYTHING; seems to prefer premium ammo (like a high grade BMW) is easy to follow up second shots, with twenty 9mm rounds ; to paraphrase what civil war soldiers said about the henry rifle, \'you can shoot it all week\' .... I bought extra clips for it; I think I could easily take out a small group of gangbangers quickly with this; or some socialist-fascist vermin intent on disarming Americans!!!! :) shoot straight brothers and sisters, live with honor!
Jerry, The Taurus PT1911 is a great "out of the box" .45. A lot of features, acurate, and reliable. A little large for most to be a carry gun, but a great addition to your collection. Ive got about 700 rounds through mine without a single hiccup.

I love my <a href="http://shootingsportsblog.com/bulletboy/springfield-xdm/">XDm 40</a> and have considered getting the 9mm just as a companion.
