Game Trails’ Amazing “Average”

After making early rounds through Game Trails’ super riverbottom habitat, naturally I was itching to see how a brand new gun (Thompson/Center’s as-yet-unnamed mid-priced bolt-action) and a new load (Winchester E-Tips, i.e., lead-free bullet) would..

Why RUM and not Jeroboam?

Like many of you, I had a glass or five of champagne to celebrate New Year’s. Actually, it was sparkling wine, as the French have a monopoly on actual champagne, but that’s another story. My bubbly came in a standard, 750 mL bottle. Better stuff...

The Times They Are a Changin’

With sincere apologies to Bob Dylan for ripping off his title, it is nonetheless as accurate a description now for gunnies as it was when he penned it several decades ago regarding society in general. Gun people have changed. When I grew up in the...

Criminal Season

A lot of us still need to buy fixings for that holiday dinner and I prefer to patronize a grocery store with a friendly and courteous staff that doesn’t bother drawing on a gun-brandishing criminal until the robber points a gun at a woman and her...

New Pump From Remington
It was August when I got the news. Remington’s Eddie Stevenson called one afternoon to see if I wanted to shoot some geese in Alberta. “Sure,” I said. “We gonna be using the 870 or the 11-87?” “Well, we’ll have pump guns,” he replied, then after a.... Read more...

“The Finicky Spring Affair”

“The Finicky Spring Affair” The sense of victory I experienced having successfully modified the flash hider to accept an externally-threaded barrel was short lived. The modifications to the pistol portion of my U.N.C.L.E. Special were virtually...

American Guardian Television

AGTV

The NRA’s newest firearms show, “American Guardian Television,” debuts this month on Outdoor Channel. It airs Wednesday nights at 9:30 EST, just before “American Rifleman Television,” giving gun enthusiasts a solid one-hour block of NRA TV. “American Guardian” is totally dedicated to matters of personal protection, concealed carry and home defense.

To cover this ever-important topic, “American Guardian,” hosted by former American Rifleman Managing Editor Chad Adams will travel to the elite military, law enforcement and civilian training academies to bring to light the latest firearms gear and tactics suitable for personal protection. With the motto “High Speed Television for the Armed Citizen,” this is a practical yet action-packed firearms show.

“American Guardian” starts its inaugural season with a bang January 7 in “Tactical Shotgun, Part I,” as Adams highlights the basic fundamentals of defensive shotgunning at Blackwater. In the “Gun Locker” segment, the televised version of the department in this magazine, viewers will receive the breakdown on Sig Sauer’s revolutionary P250 semi-automatic pistol. And in “Sheriff’s Tip,” our own Sheriff Jim Wilson will teach viewers the proper steps for presentation from a holster.

Subsequent episodes in January take the crew back to Blackwater for the conclusion of their smoothbore training in “Tactical Shotgun, Part II,” which is full of impressive footage, including night shooting, working from cover and awesome door-breaching footage you won’t want to miss. In “Gunsite Basics,” Adams travels to the famed Gunsite Academy to break down the building blocks that have made Jeff Cooper’s legacy transcend the famous gunner in “Gunsite Basics.” Finally, in “High-Speed Handgun,” Adams goes through advanced handgun fighting techniques with instruction from Crimson Trace’s Wes Doss and SureFire Institute’s Bill Murphy, a 30-year law enforcement veteran. From low-light work with lasers to taking on the robot, this is one episode you won’t want to miss.

The remaining “Gun Locker” segments detail the economical DPMS Sportical, the upgraded Springfield Armory XD(M) and the amazingly utilitarian Taurus Judge .45 Colt/.410 shotshell revolver. And of course, Sheriff Wilson continues to share his expertise in Sheriff’s Tips,” helping you avoid common presentation mistakes, teaching how to deal with police during routine contact, and offering potentially life-saving tips when on dealing with police after a shooting, should you become involved in an unavoidable self-defense scenario. With decades of law enforcement experience, when the Sheriff speaks, you need to listen.
